Please check your email frequently for current info about the structure of camp rehearsals. At this point (14Aug20), we are limiting activities to outdoor small group sectional rehearsals ONLY, with all prescribed safety protocols in place (masks, distancing, less than 10 people, no drill, etc.) We will update this as the situation evolves, and communicate as quickly as we can via email and social media.

As of today (July 25), Otterbein University is still planning to have in-person classes on campus this fall. Updates from the University's "Return to Campus Team" can be found HERE.
At Otterbein, the Cardinal Marching Band is listed as a credited academic course/ensemble (not an extra-curricular activity). With the loss of regular appearances at football events, the band faculty and staff are working diligently to explore opportunities for this ensemble to continue operating through campus/community outreach during the fall. We are using all available precautions to keep everyone safe and healthy, and keeping an eye on any new developments from current research studies, government agencies, and Otterbein administration.
If you have any questions, please email Dr. Yonchak.

2020 HOUSING INFORMATION (rev 8Aug2020)
As of Friday, August 7, Otterbein has announced a phased reopening of campus. Please check your email for a detailed explanation of how this will work. For the TL;DR crowd, all members of the Cardinal Marching Band are considered part of PHASE 1.
Our expected arrival/move-in is still Saturday, August 15.
The phase you are assigned to does not impact your membership or ability to participate in the marching band. This strictly deals with students who are moving into campus housing.
If a student lives within commuting distance and wants to live at home until Phase 3 (Sept 4-6) or Phase 4 (Sept 11-13), then Res Life can adjust the assigned move-in date. These students would need to commute the WHOLE TIME, and cannot move in until their assigned date/phase.
If a student wants to change from band move-in (Phase 1) to Phase 3 or 4, please email reslife@otterbein.edu with the request. Res Life staff will move the student’s name from the band roster to the appropriate list.

BAND FEES. (rev 8Aug2020)
Adjustment of the annual band fee from $140 to $56 to reflect a shorter band camp. This fee is a true course fee - it will appear on your tuition bill. There is no need to pay it separately through Otterbein’s “Marketplace” virtual portal.
The band fee helps to defray costs of meals at band camp, as well as the annual purchase of band hats, neck scarves/gaiters, and other supplies needed for the season.

Auditioning for the Cardinal Marching Band
Auxiliary members (twirlers and colorguard) should look below for requirements regarding their respective auditions.
Prospective/Returning drumline members will all audition for placement following check-in at band camp.
Prospective hornline members (woodwinds and brass) should make a simple solo audio or video recording of you playing your high school's fight song and alma mater. These recordings do not need to be ultra high quality - they give us an idea of what you can do on your instrument with excerpts you likely already know. Please email these files to Dr. Michael Yonchak (Director of Bands). If you have done an on-site audition for the music department on your intended instrument, that audition will cover you for this requirement.
In all cases, students auditioning for the athletic band award ($1000/year renewable up to 4 years), need to have their materials in or a live audition completed prior to or during the month of April. Students submitting materials AFTER April can still participate in the Cardinal Marching Band, but will not be eligible for the AB award until the FOLLOWING season. Please contact Dr. Yonchak for details.

The CARDINAL MARCHING BAND celebrates over 100 years of music and excitement, representing Otterbein University on and off campus. Comprised of students coming from nearly every major on campus, this ensemble has performed for campus athletic events, NFL football games, tailgate parties for Otterbein Presidents AND Ohio Governors, Westerville block parties, and Honor Flights departing from John Glenn Columbus International Airport.
The band's style has been described as a balance between corps-inspired marching and crowd-friendly music selections.
